Alice I. Hudak, 85, of Dallas, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2023, peacefully at her home. Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Emma Steele Ide and was a graduate of Lehman Jackson Ross High School.
Alice was truly passionate about education and was employed with the Tunkhannock Area School District for over 30 years. She was a teacher and principal at Beaumont Elementary School and later taught at the new Evans Falls Elementary. She loved to be creative in her classroom with her lessons and projects as her students brought her great joy. Nothing made her happier than reconnecting with her students as adults later in life, reminiscing of their classroom memories, hearing of their successes, or learning of the impacts she had made on their lives.
She loved being active and involved in the local community, where she was the President of the Lake-Lehman Band Sponsors, in addition to being a member of the Harvey’s Lake Women’s Club and Wyoming Valley Women’s Club. Her professional affiliations included both memberships and leadership positions with Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR), Delta Kappa Gamma and Beta Sigma, where she was the founding member and served as president. Alice was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dallas, where she volunteered at their rummage sales and social activities. She was formerly a member of St. Therese’s Parish in Shavertown where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was very involved in The Altar and Rosary Society as well as the Handbell Choir.
Those that knew Alice knew she was a kind and spirited soul who loved to travel the world and enjoyed meeting new people and making friends in each country along her journey. She enjoyed learning about her family’s heritage on her various trips to Czechoslovakia, seeing the incredible sights of the mountains in Switzerland, cruising around the glaciers in Alaska and relaxing by the beach or pool with her family in Aruba. In her spare time, she loved to keep her mind active by crocheting and crafting, reading her favorite Nicholas Sparks novels, solving numerous puzzles and challenging her granddaughter in board games. She loved nothing more than spending hours catching up with family who stopped by to visit and taking care of all of her grand-dogs, who always brought warm smiles to her face with their wet kisses.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life John J. Hudak, Sr. in 2009 who she was beautifully married to for 49 years. She is survived by her children, daughter, Suzanne H. Rismondo and her husband Robert of Lehman, and her son, John J. Hudak, Jr. of Lehman. Her grandchildren include Samantha Jo Young, Johnna Shovlin, and Rene Rismondo.
Funeral service will be held, Friday, May 19, 2023 at 9:30 AM from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., located at 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA, followed by a mass at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Yalick Road in Dallas at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Charles Grube, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park.
