Carol Norwig

Carol Ann Norwig was peacefully taken home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2020, with her loving husband and daughter by her side. Carol was 72 years old and had been battling Alzheimer’s for several years. She resided in Dallas, PA with her husband, Bill, of almost 52 years, and their cherished dog, Porky the Pug.

Carol was born on July 13, 1947 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to Willard and Joan Keiper of Sebastopol, PA. Carol was the oldest child and always had such a caring demeanor for her two younger sisters, Edna and Patricia. During her teen years, Carol worked at a local dress factory in Plains, PA, until she graduated in 1965 from North East High School (now Pittston Area). At 18 years of age, Carol enrolled at the Jerrytone School of Cosmetology and became a hairdresser.

On June 24, 1967, Carol and Bill were married at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and settled in Washington, NJ where Bill was a school teacher. Carol worked at an upscale hair salon in Basking Ridge, NJ, where her little claim to fame was that she once washed Jackie Onassis Kennedy’s hair.

While still living in New Jersey, Carol and Bill adopted a Korean baby girl, Tami, and two years later adopted a seven-year-old Korean boy, Adam. There was never a moment that Carol did not love these children as her own flesh and blood.

Carol was an extremely hard worker and was always quick to find a job no matter where they relocated. Carol had the joy of working for a close friend at a day care center in Dallas, PA for many years. Since she enjoyed working with children so much, Carol went on to teach preschool at Lancaster Christian School in Lancaster, PA.

After yet another move to be closer to family, Carol was blessed with the opportunity to be the cook at Camp Orchard Hill in Dallas, PA. Little did she know that this would become far more than a job; it became her ministry. Carol touched countless lives in her 15 years at Camp Orchard Hill and left a legacy that has spread far and wide.

Outside of her work life, Carol had many hobbies such as sewing and scrapbooking, as well as a particular love for photography. She almost always had her old 32mm Canon in tow, aimed to capture as many memories as possible. Carol loved to go “shutterbugging,” as she called it, in Cape Cod, where she and Bill vacationed every year for decades. She would stand on the beach each year like it was the first time she had ever seen anything so amazing.

From the time the Lord saved her at 30 years old and introduced Jesus as her personal Savior, Carol was always very involved in her church wherever they lived. She was known to make meals for others in need, teach Sunday School, and help with VBS. Most recently, she was a member of Cross Creek Community Church in Trucksville, PA.

Carol was a woman who instantly made you feel at home and always saw the good in people. She sought to encourage others and was a sincere listener. Carol loved the Lord and was the type of person who always put others first. She leaves a great void in the lives of many, and while they are sad, her loved ones are rejoicing that she is suffering no longer and is in the presence of Jesus.

Carol is survived by her husband, Bill; her son, Adam; her daughter, Tami and husband, Jim Perrin, of Hatfield, PA; and her two grandchildren, Jimmy and Cody Perrin. Carol is preceded in death by her sister, Edna Jean Keiper; father, Willard Keiper; mother, Joan (Russell) Keiper; and sister, Patricia (Keiper) Kiebler.

Carol’s family would like to thank the caring staff at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas, PA for making her last few years pleasant and comfortable. In addition, the family is thankful for so many friends and loved ones who have walked alongside them on this journey.
