Every family has a story to tell; welcome to ours; Charlotte (Char) Gould Fletcher spent her final days of life at home surrounded and cared for by her cherished family. She leaves in us her memories of her love, laughter, and lifelong ministry as a witness to Christ. Char passed to the next life on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
Char was born in New Castle, PA, in July 1952 to Everett and Magdalene (Zurasky) Gould, who raised her on the family farm surrounded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, dozens of cousins (especially Mel), and four siblings. She was the first girl in the family to wear a miniskirt, dawn a bikini, and buy a brand-new car, a stick shift that she drove for over 200,000 miles. At the age of 14, Char accepted Christ into her heart. As a member of the Girl Scouts, she formed lifelong friendships and had the Scout Camp Charlotte named after her. After graduating from Shenango High School, she worked for the Lawrence County AAA and taught Sunday School at Savannah United Methodist Church.
Following her marriage in 1975, she moved to Sweet Valley, PA, and later raised her children at their home in Dallas, PA. Her home was the gathering place for family, friends, neighbors, church members, and her children’s friends! She enjoyed a good water battle and would secretly help the youngest participant. During a stenciling phase of her life, out of fear that she would stencil them next, family members were afraid to sit still for too long! Her home was dedicated to Christ.
After retiring from her 32-year career with Commonwealth Telephone (later Frontier Communications), Char picked up her home phone and began routinely calling family and friends. She would keep everybody up to date with each other’s lives, even if it were about her hairdressers, cousin's son who was organizing a proposal to his fiancé! With her passing, those dear to her have realized that because Char was no longer connecting them with her stories, everybody would need to "actually call" each other!
She was a member and teacher for the Emmanuel Assembly of God. Later in her life, she attended Back Mountain Harvest. A few weeks before her passing, she sorted two boxes of mementos accumulated as a teacher at church. She kept the moments she shared with her students and church friends close to her heart. She hoped that they remember to keep Christ in their lives.
Her greatest joy was watching her sons, Jonathan and his wife Karen Fletcher of Oxford, PA, and Robert A. Fletcher, of Dallas, PA raise her grandchildren, Zuriel, Cole, and Cordelia. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by one acquired daughter, Crystal Copeland Min and her husband Sungwoo of California her siblings Dale and his wife Sensarah Gould of New Castle, PA, Dorothy Gould of Ellwood City, PA, Martin Gould of New Wilmington, PA and Magdalene (Maggie) and her husband William (Will) Bishop of State College, PA, her maternal uncle, Walter Zurasky of Penn Hills, PA and 15 nieces and nephews followed by great-grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Her children would like to invite all who knew Charlotte to join with them to celebrate her life to be held, Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, Pa. Friend may call Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Charlotte always chose to love everyone and to give to others whenever she saw a need. In lieu of donations to a particular charity, choose to love others as she would have. Go to your local food bank and donate food to provide for those in need. Volunteer/Donate to help your church’s outreach program. Support your local hospice as they support others during their greatest time of need. Or give to an organization that you feel makes a difference in this world.
