Doctor Gary Marshall Smith, M.D., born in Kingston September 20, 1945, to Iris Kitchen and Garvin Smith, spending his early life at Harveys Lake. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Stine. Gary passed away in the early morning of September 30, 2021. He was a graduate of the Wilkes-Hahnemann Medical Program, where he received his medical doctorate; Graduated from Dallas High School. He served as a physician for over 30 years, across the medical systems in the Wyoming Valley, Dallas, and Shickshinny. Gary served with Rural Health as well as Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he operated as the head of the board of directors in his later active years. Gary was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. Gary is survived by his wife, Carol Smith, and his children, Heather Smith, Preston Smith, Amy Bonnerwith and Brian Bonnerwith, their children Emma, Molly, Brian Jr. and his wife Melissa, Corrine, and Madison; Colbey Galka, Michael Galka, ad their children Reese, Myles, and Finn. Though he is now passed, his legacy remains with us eternally. For those who knew him, he was the cigar-smoking, coffee-drinking, sock and sandal-wearing, talk-your-ear off physician. "Do as I say, not as I do", he valued every experience with each of his patients on an individual level. His door was always open for anyone who needed care, day or night. He will be forever missed by all who knew him. "Whiskey for the men, and beer for the horses!" In honor of his daughter, Heather, his family requests that friends make donations to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509, or via their website. Memorial service will be held, Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 4:00 PM at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home. 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, Pa. 18612.
