Edmund P. Gongleski, 69, of Dallas passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Ed was born and raised in Swoyersville, son of the late Edmund and Dorothy (Selingo) Gonglefski. Edmund was a 1970 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, earned a BS in Criminal Justice from Kings College in 1974, and an AD in Graphic Arts from Luzerne County Community College. Upon graduation he had a brief career in professional baseball. Ed retired after 35 years employed as an art director and printpress technician in the local printing industry. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church in Dallas.
In addition to his parents Edmund was predeceased by his brothers Leonard John and John Luke Gonglefski.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Marjorie (Handley) Gongleski, his children, Lisa Marie Turner and husband Tom of Fairport, NY, and Amanda Gongleski and fiancé Chris Bohn of Winter Garden, FL, brother, Robert Gongleski and wife Nancy of Vestal, NY, grandchildren, Brian and Mason Turner and niece and Goddaughter Christine Finn of Framingham, MA.
Since retirement, Ed has enjoyed volunteering at the Back Mountain Memorial Library and pursuing his true passion in art and oil painting. Throughout his life he has painted portraits, wildlife, paperback covers and was the sports cartoonist for the Sunday independent newspaper. He participated in many local art shows including the Pittston Art Walk and Cherry Blossom Festival. He also enjoyed spending time playing with and walking his dog Jackson at home.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 9:30am from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Avenue, Dallas, Pa 18612 with Pastor Rev. Andrew S. Hvozdovic celebrant.
Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, November 3 from 6PM to 8PM at Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Edmund’s name to the Back Mountain Memorial Library, 96 Huntsville Rd, Dallas, PA 18612.
