Edward “Ned” Hartman, 92, passed away Wednesday, June 16,2021 at Gracious Living Estates, Montrose. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he lived the majority of his life in the Back Mountain area, since 1930.
He was the son of the late Edward and Mary Fertal Hartman. Ned married Lois Miller in 1954 settling in the Back Mountain area not long after marriage. They enjoyed the privilege of raising 3 children and the grace of grand and great grandchildren.
Ned was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary class of 1947, as the senior class president and wrestling team captain. Following his graduation, he served his country proudly, with the USMC as a combat veteran in the Korean War (1950-1954). While in the USMC, Ned coached wrestling and continued to coach wrestling at Wyoming Seminary (58-62), bringing his last team to second place in the National Prep School Tourney at Lehigh University. Ned is established on the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, as a wrestler and coach. Ned was a charter member and past president of Dallas Area Letterman-Booster Club. Ned also enjoyed radio broadcasting high-school wrestling matches for a few years following his early retirement from coaching. Ned completed his coaching with the Tarpon Springs (FL) High School shortly after his retirement from Hartman Insurance Agency, Inc.
Ned was a third-generation owner of Hartman Insurance Agency, and upon his retirement, sold the business to his two sons, now, fourth generation owners. While working in this family business, Ned was a two-term president of Independent Insurance Agencies of Wyoming Valley.
Ned and his wife, Lois, began to enjoy formal dancing resulting in accomplishing a reputation in international style ballroom dancing and founded and operated Ballroom Barn, for group and private dance instruction which earned a reputation for its party-dinner dances.
Ned also enjoyed watercolor painting, and spent many years researching his family tree, dating from 1640, in this Country.
Ned has been a passionate Penn State University wrestling and football fan and has been a lifetime PSU Alum Association member.
Ned was preceded in death by his wife Lois (9-26-18) and brother and sister-in-law Bob and Nancy. Surviving are daughter, Gail Stredny and her husband, John. Sons Ward and his wife Joetta, and David and his wife Donna. Grandchildren, Aaron and Ryan Stredny, Amy Hartman, Kimberly Crossin, Amanda Price and Amber Hartman. Four great grandchildren, Camryn, Rohan, Levi, and Patrick. Several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
