Grant Cooper

July 30, 1938 — November 16, 2016

Grant R. Cooper, Sr., 78, of Shavertown, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas. Born in Shavertown, he was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy Wilcox Cooper and was a graduate of Lake Lehman High School. Grant was employed with The Commission on Economic Opportunity with transporting meals and services. On his off hours he would volunteer many hours with delivering, on Thanksgiving every year he would again volunteer his time to deliver Thanksgiving meals before sharing that day with his family. In his early years, he was employed by American Asphalt and Singer Company in Shavertown as welder. He was a member of The Huntsville United Methodist Church, his family church for many generations. Grant would love Bowling, but one of his favorite pass times was his passion for Lionel trains and sharing that with his Grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Cooper. Surviving are his wife of 59 1/2 years, the former Sandra Phillips, daughters, Elizabeth Zack and her husband Robert, Alice Colatosti and her husband Neal, Son, Grant Cooper, all of Shavertown. Granddaughter, Lauren Zack-Taylor and her husband Jeffrey and Grandson, Vincent Colatosti. Sister, Jane Smith, Sweet Valley and Brother, Alan Cooper, Shavertown. Several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at The Huntsville United Methodist Church with The Rev. Carol Coleman, officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service at the church. Interment will be privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas. Grant's family would like to give a special Thank you to Dr. Alan Boonin and the nursing staff of the third floor at The Meadows Nursing Center for their loving care given to Grant.
