John Murphy, Sr.

John Francis Murphy, Sr., 90, of Dallas, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital.  Born in Lake Township, he was the son of the late Charles Leo and Mabel Elizabeth (Puterbaugh) Murphy and was a graduate of Lake Township High School.

John was employed by Hoffmann La Roche Pharmaceuticals in Nutley, NJ as a foreman, retiring after many years of service.  He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran serving post World War II.  John was an avid bass fisherman, traveler and wood carver.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Elvira Murphy Bauer and brothers, Charles Leo and Richard Laverne Murphy.

Surviving are his wife the former Bernice E. Hughes; son, John Francis Murphy, Jr. and his wife Linda of East Grand Forks, MN; daughter, Linda Lee Dec and her husband John of Bear Creek Township; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Val Rommell of Alderson United Methodist Church officiating.  Interment will be in Perrego Cemetery, Harveys Lake.  Family and friends may call Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  Military honors will be performed at the cemetery.
