John Owens, Sr.

John L. Owens, Sr., 94, Shavertown, passed away, Friday, November 15, 2019 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Trucksville, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Elizabeth James Owens and was a graduate of Kingston Twp. High School and Wilkes University with a degree in Finance. John was in the banking industry for many years in local offices of First Eastern Bank retiring from the Dallas office as Vice President.

He was a member of The Shavertown United Methodist Church. John was a Veteran of the Army Air Corp during WW II serving as a Sergeant with 731st Bombardment Squadron 452nd Bombardment Group. He was a member of Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post #672, Dallas. John was a Mason and a member of Irem Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his wife the former Marian A. Owens in 2002. Sister, Elizabeth Stewart. Surviving is a son, John Owens, Jr. and his wife Jessica. Shavertown. Grandchildren, Katie Troutman, Sarah and Madison Owens. Grandson, Gavin Owens. He was the beloved Uncle of William R. Stewart and Elizabeth J. Amoruso.

As per the decedent’s wishes, Funeral with Military Honors will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas.
