John Smith

November 20, 1935 — April 7, 2016

John Robert "Bob" Smith, 80, of Dallas, passed away, Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his residence. Born in Ambler, Pa., he was the son of the late Roscoe L. and Beatrice McCombe Smith and was a graduate of Ambler Joint High School and attended Drexel University. After graduation, John joined the military and served his country with the Marines. He had worked for Nabisco for 10 years and later with Platex, among other companies. He later owned and operated Alfresco Patio Furniture. He and his wife lived in California for 29 years. Upon retirement they traveled the country in an RV for 3 years, later returning to Pennsylvania. John was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Concordia Lodge #67 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Bloomsburg, and Irem Shrine. Within Irem Shrine he was a member of The Chanters and The Provost Guard. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret S. Mack and Ruth Schnell and brother, Roscoe L. Smith. Surviving are his wife the former Thelma Bickel at home, daughters, Carol L. Wilson, Aurora, Co., Jennifer K. Benson and her husband David, LaFayette, Ga., and Amy L. Overbeek and her husband Brent, Honolulu, Hawaii. Sister, Barbara S. Barr, West Chester, Pa. Grandchildren, Kirsti (Wilson) Fonseca, Andrew Wilson, Maegan, Nolan and Jacob Benson, Brian and Nathan Overbeek, and Great Grandson, Arturo "Trey" Fonseca. Memorial service will be held Friday, April 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Dallas with the Rev. Jennifer Baer, pastor Trinity Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends are invited for refreshments in the church's Fellowship Hall immediately following the services. Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas.
