Lois J. Miller Hartman, 87, Kingston, passed away, Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Mercy Center, Dallas. Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hannah Berkheiser Miller and was a graduate of Harter High School, West Nanticoke class of 1948.
Lois had worked at Empress Ice Cream, Plymouth, also Sears Roebuck & Co. and later owned and operated Hartman Insurance Agency with her husband Ned. Lois was a member of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Dallas. She lived in the Back Mountain since 1955 and was very active member of the church. She chaired the churches annual antique auction and had been an acolyte.
She enjoyed her family who all lived in the back mountain. She and her husband were dancers since the day they met and were very active in square dancing for 22 years, and danced to the highest level of round dancing participating in many national conventions. Their ballroom experience climaxed as she and her husband founded “Ballroom Barn”, a studio from which they instructed group and private classes and dinner dance parties in Dallas.
Lois was a member of The Dallas Junior Women’s Club, enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of Newberry Country Club Women’s Golf League. She and her husband enjoyed travel. They took friends to Penn State Football Games since 1975 and attended five Bowl Games.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters who died during their infancy and Brother and sister-in-laws, Robert and Nancy Hartman. Surviving is her husband Edward (Ned) Hartman at home with whom she had been married to for 63 years. Daughter, Gail Ann Stredny and her husband John, Sons, Edward “Ward” Hartman and his wife Joetta (Mayefski), and David R. Hartman and his wife Donna (Reina). Grandchildren, Aaron and his wife Heida Stredny, Ryan Stredny, Amy, Kimberly, Amanda and Cornelius Price Amber Hartman, and Great Granddaughter, Cameryn and Great Grandson, Rowan. Nieces and nephews, Judy and Joseph Brown, Holly and John Flynn, and Robert Hartman, Jr., and many grand nieces and nephews.
Lois’s family would like to give a special thanks to the caregiving and support staff at Mercy Center Skilled Nursing Facility and Dr. Lanning Anselmi.
Funeral will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas
