Mary Hobbs

August 2, 1945 — March 7, 2023

Mary K. Hobbs, 77, of Pittston, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 following an illness under the care of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart. Born in Wilkes-Barre, August 2, 1945, Mary was the daughter of the late Charles and Genevieve Keating Helfrich.

Mary graduated from St. Leo’s High School, Ashley, PA class of 1963, serving on the cheerleading squad. She lived 10 wonderful years in the Niagara Falls, NY area, later living many years in the Back Mountain area.

Mary loved traveling and recently spent her 53rd wedding anniversary in Hawaii. She enjoyed cruising and was fortunate to cruise to Europe and numerous times to the Caribbean with family and friends. She enjoyed the trips to Aruba with her special friends. She looked forward to her annual “Girls Weekends.”

A woman of strong faith, Mary was a devout member of the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Dallas, PA for many years.

Above all, Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family and she cherished every moment she shared with loved ones, especially her grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her sister Nancy Antolik, brother Charles, and brother-in-law Michael Klitchko. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Jesse; two lovely daughters who comforted her in her last days, Karen Atkinson, and husband Duane, Dallas; Jennifer Hillman, VA. Beach, Virginia; two grandchildren, Ian and Jessica Atkinson, Dallas; Sister Jeanne Klitchko, and brother Gerald Helfrich, Nalcrest, FL. Plus many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews.

Finally, Mary’s family is so appreciative of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care and guidance through Mary’s final weeks.

Funeral service will be held Monday, March 13, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 420 Main Street, Dallas, Pa. with The Rev. Joseph Rafferty, Pastor, officiating.  Friends may call Monday from 9:30 AM until time of service at the church. Viewing and service both held at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Dallas, PA. Interment is in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas, PA, following funeral service. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William Street, Dunmore, PA. 18510.
