Patricia R. Baird, 91, died peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024, surrounded by family at Geisinger Medical Center, in Wilkes-Barrie, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her husband Robert “Bobby” W. Baird — they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this coming September; their children Bonnie Baird (Kennett Square, PA), Robert Baird III and wife Christa (Northampton, PA), Lori Baird Solomon and husband Dr. James Solomon (Charlottesville, VA), and Wendy Baird (Columbia, MD); eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and adoring nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Pat is remembered for her kindness, nurturing, faith, and service to others.
Patricia Ann Roberts was born on March 26, 1933 in Cooperstown, New York to the Rev. George Roberts and Fannie Hilbert Roberts. She attended Wyoming Memorial High School, Western Maryland College and Nesbitt Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse. After Bob and Pat married, they settled in the Back Mountain and started their family. Pat founded Trucksville Nursery School, eventually becoming coordinator and a teacher at the school. In addition, Pat taught Sunday School at Trucksville UMC for 40 years. She was devoted to volunteering with organizations ranging from the Dallas Rotary Club, who recently honored and named her a Paul Harris Fellow; Girl Scouts, the Association for the Blind, Meals on Wheels, and others. In the wake of Hurricane Agnes in 1972, Pat coordinated efforts to bring recruits from Fort Dix, NJ, to help with cleanup, and was recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Army Commander at Fort Dix.
Mrs. Baird loved children – her own and others. With a lovely soprano voice, she had a passion for music and choral singing. Pat loved to garden, loved to gather people, especially her extended family on holidays, and enjoyed reading and puzzles. She even loved accompanying her husband on fishing trips to Canada, something they did for many years.
