Therese Kennedy

Therese Ann {Terri} Kennedy (82), a Mercy Associate of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died at Mercy Center Nursing Unit on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. A native of Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of Dr. William J and Margaret (Regan) Kennedy.

Therese attended St Mary's School and was a graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School (1958). She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from College Misericordia (now Misericordia University) and a Master of Science degree in Reading Education from the University of Scranton.

Terri began her teaching career at Stanhope Elementary School, Stanhope N.J. and taught in the Roxbury Township School District, N.J. until her retirement in 1992. Following retirement Terri relocated to Dallas, PA and was an adjunct faculty member, student teacher supervisor at Misericordia and served on the staff of Project REMAIN. She was a long- time volunteer at Mercy Center and a member/officer of the Mercy Center Auxiliary.

Terri will be remembered for her caring spirit, generous nature and compassionate attention to each person she met: the primary children she relished teaching, the student teachers she mentored, the elderly she companioned, her co- workers and partners in volunteering, and family members. She embodied the spirit of Mercy throughout her life and found fulfillment in her covenant with the Sisters of Mercy as a Mercy Associate.

Therese was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William and Robert, her nephews Francis (infant) and Michael, and beloved niece Kelly Ann.

She is survived by her sister, Jane F Kennedy, RSM, niece Kateri, nephews Stephen (Jean), Michael (Jane}, Robert (Lisa), Stuart (Deborah), William and several grand nieces and nephews.

Her burial service will be at the Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, PA on Wednesday April 13, 2022 at 10:30 am.

Terri's family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of the staff of Mercy Center for the excellent care, compassion and support which Terri experienced.
