Thomas Nikoden, 61, from Dallas passed away Saturday September 1st, in Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Kaskus Nikoden.
Tom was a graduate of Meyers High School and Bloomsburg University. He had a passion for education and helping children, having worked as a resident advisor, therapeutic staff support worker and substitute teacher throughout his life.
Tom was a member of the Harveys Lake Yacht Club and Harvey’s Lake American Legion Post 0967. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene Monichelli Nikoden in 2011.
Tom is survived by his loving girlfriend Rita Carolan, with whom he resided in Dallas, his son Thomas, daughter-in law Melissa, grandson Jackson all of Nanticoke; a brother Leonard and sister in law Mary of Fairless Hills, sister Lisa Hess of Swoyersville, niece Nicole Dempsey and nephew Marc Nikoden. Several great nephews and a great niece.
Tom loved to have fun and enjoy life. He always had an infectious smile on his face. He lived to make those he loved happy. He enjoyed to travel and make memories with Rita, watch and attend Eagles and Phillies games with his son TJ. In the summer, he could be found enjoying life out on his boat. Something he loved to share with his grandson Jackson.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00am at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas with The Rev. Daniel Toomey, pastor, Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, officiating, Friends may call Saturday from 9:30am until time of service.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the ALS Association at ALS.org.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the entire staff of the Celtic Hospice for the care and compassion given to Tom in his time of need.
